Ó Chroí Care – Newcastle

Ó Chroí Care’s Newcastle centre is a social care-based residential service that provides medium to long-term care and support for up to three children and young people, both male and female, aged between 6 and 18 years. The centre is specifically designed to support individuals with a primary diagnosis of mild to moderate Intellectual Disability, who may also present with emotional and/or behavioural needs. Additionally, the centre provides care for children and young people with co-occurring diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Services

  • Newcastle provides full-time residential care for up to three children and young people, aged 6 to 18 years, of any gender. All placements are medium to long-term and follow a detailed referral and assessment process

  • The service is designed to support children and young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, who may also present with autism, emotional and behavioural needs, and/or other neurodevelopmental differences. Newcastle does not currently provide high-dependency physical care or nursing services

  • We are committed to creating a nurturing, structured, and responsive environment that supports each young person’s emotional development, communication, social interaction, wellbeing, and adaptive life skills

  • The centre offers a calm, sensory-aware, and low-stimulus setting, with predictable routines, access to quiet spaces, and visual supports to reduce anxiety and promote regulation. The environment is also equipped to accommodate children and young people with limited mobility, although intensive physical care is not provided

  • Individual bedrooms for children and young people, each offering personal space, privacy, and the opportunity for customisation according to their preferences and sensory needs

  • A large communal living room designed to promote shared connection, relaxation, and positive relationship-building in a warm and comfortable space

  • A spacious kitchen and dining area, connected as an open-plan space, supports social interaction around meals and facilitates young people’s participation in meal preparation and cooking with the guidance of Social Care Team Members

  • A communal play area that allows for recreation and age-appropriate play opportunities, fostering emotional development, creativity, and social engagement

Facilities

  • A large, secure garden that provides opportunities for outdoor play, physical activity, and time in nature, all within a safe and private setting

  • A centre vehicle, used to transport children and young people to school, appointments, community activities, and family access visits

  • Local amenities, including schools, shops, parks, and healthcare services, are easily accessible within a short drive to the surrounding towns and villages, ensuring young people remain connected to their community
